Tattoos are a form of self-expression that many people love. I respect those who choose to have them, and I understand the meaning and personal significance they can hold. Some people get tattoos to mark important events, remember loved ones, or simply because they appreciate the art. But for me, tattoos have never been something I wanted.
It’s not that I dislike them on others—I just don’t see myself ever getting one. My body feels complete as it is, and the idea of permanently marking it with ink doesn’t appeal to me. Some people say tattoos are a way to tell a story, but I believe my life’s story doesn’t need to be written on my skin. It lives in my memories, my experiences, and the way I live each day.
Another reason I wouldn’t get a tattoo is my dislike of needles. The thought of a needle repeatedly piercing my skin for hours is enough to make me uncomfortable. Needles have one purpose for me: medical necessity. Whether it’s a blood test or a vaccination, I tolerate them because they are needed for my health. But voluntarily sitting through a tattoo session? That’s something I could never imagine doing.
I feel the same way about makeup. Many people enjoy wearing it, and it enhances their confidence. I respect that, just as I respect tattoos. But personally, I don’t enjoy the feeling of makeup on my face. It feels heavy, unnatural, and unnecessary for me. Just like I prefer my skin without ink, I prefer my face without layers of foundation or lipstick.
People often say, “Never say never,” and maybe one day I’ll change my mind. But for now, I know myself well enough to say that tattoos and needles are not for me. I appreciate them on others, admire the artistry behind them, and understand their personal significance—but I’m happy keeping my skin just the way it is.
How about you? What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?
