Travel is full of surprises. Some are exciting, some test our patience, but in the end, every journey has its own story. Ours took an unexpected turn when we found ourselves stuck in Cologne for an hour due to a flight delay. The storm in Málaga had caused disruptions, and our plane couldn’t take off as scheduled. Delays are never ideal, but we knew there was no point in stressing over something beyond our control. Instead, we made the most of it.
Cologne Airport wasn’t a bad place to wait, especially for my daughter, who loves to explore. While some travelers sighed in frustration and checked their watches repeatedly, we decided to turn the delay into an adventure. The duty-free section became our little playground, and unsurprisingly, the toy section became the highlight. My daughter’s excitement made time fly as she wandered through aisles filled with colorful displays, stuffed animals, and dolls, pressing buttons on interactive toys and admiring everything around her. Her joy was contagious, and soon, what could have been an hour of boredom turned into a fun little detour.
Before we knew it, our boarding call came, and we were finally on our way. The flight to Málaga felt smoother simply because we were grateful to be on it. When travel plans don’t go as expected, it’s easy to focus on the inconvenience, but what truly matters is getting to our destination safely. A delay is just a small bump in the journey, nothing more. The storm had passed, and we were on our way to a new adventure.
Landing in Málaga at 2 a.m. was a quiet and surreal experience. The airport, usually bustling with energy, had a certain stillness at that hour. Sleepy but relieved, we collected our bags and made our way to our accommodation, ready to rest before exploring this beautiful city.
