My Love for Korean Food: A Culinary Obsession

Korean food has become more than just a meal to me—it’s a passion, an obsession even. I can’t resist the vibrant flavors, the balance of spicy, savory, and tangy elements that make every dish so special. My love for kimchi runs deep, but Korean cuisine, in general, is something I crave all the time.

While I’m not exactly a pro in the kitchen (I’m not the best at cooking), my husband often steps in to satisfy my cravings. He lovingly prepares bulgogi or makes a batch of kimchi, trying his best to bring a little taste of Korea to our home. It’s a thoughtful gesture that makes me feel truly special, especially when he recreates my favorite dishes. There’s something about those flavors that instantly makes me feel comforted and content.

When I watch Korean TV series, my mind constantly drifts to the food scenes. Every time there’s a character enjoying a hearty meal, I can’t help but wish I could reach into the screen and taste what they’re eating. The way they eat, how the dishes are presented, the steam rising from the bowls—it’s like a food lover’s dream. The only thing I can’t get on board with is instant noodles. Despite their popularity, I’ve learned that they don’t sit well with me. I’ve tried them a few times, but I always feel off afterward, so I stick to other Korean dishes that bring me joy without any discomfort.

One of my greatest wishes is to visit Korea—to truly explore the country and indulge in its culinary wonders. The thought of walking through the streets of Seoul, surrounded by food vendors offering everything from tteokbokki to mandu, sounds like heaven to me. I dream of sitting down at a local restaurant, savoring every bite of an authentic meal, and fully immersing myself in the culture through its food.

During our travels, I always make it a point to seek out Korean restaurants wherever we go. Whether we’re in Paris, Berlin, or Prague, I’m always on the lookout for a Korean spot to satisfy my cravings. It’s like a small piece of Korea wherever I am, and it never fails to make me feel closer to the country. I’ve been lucky enough to taste some amazing dishes from various Korean restaurants abroad, and it always feels like a comforting taste of home.

A memorable experience I had was when we were at Incheon Airport in Korea. We stumbled upon a traditional Korean restaurant, and it was everything I had hoped for. We dove into the food with such excitement, devouring everything in sight. The banchan (side dishes) were served in small portions, and we loved tasting each one with the main course. From the kimchi to the bulgogi, everything was made with such care, and the flavors were simply unforgettable. It felt so special to be able to experience Korean food in Korea, and that meal will always stay with me.

Last year, when we flew to the Philippines via Asiana Airlines, I was thrilled to discover that they served Korean food on the flight. The taste of kimchi, bulgogi, and other authentic dishes made the long journey even more enjoyable. It was a perfect reminder of how deeply Korean food has become a part of my life, no matter where I am in the world.

Korean food is not just about the dishes themselves—it’s about the connections, the comfort, and the joy that comes with each meal. Every time I eat, whether it’s at home, in a restaurant, or even on a plane, I feel a sense of contentment that only Korean food can bring.

Do you share my love for Korean food? Have you tried any dishes that you can’t get enough of? I’d love to hear about your favorites and any food adventures you’ve had!
