Gardening is a wonderful activity that brings many benefits. It is not just about growing food but also about spending time outside, learning, and enjoying nature. We have three raised garden beds, and every year, we plant different vegetables and fruits. It is always exciting to see how the plants grow and what we can harvest at the end of the season.
One of the highlights of our garden was harvesting small watermelons. My daughter loves watermelon—she could eat it every day! Of course, too much of anything is not good, so she sometimes has to take a break from eating them for a while. But when she got to pick the watermelons from the garden and hold them in her hands, she was so happy. It was a special moment to see her enjoy the fruits of our work.
Another successful crop in our garden was beans. The plants produced a lot of beans, and we were able to harvest many of them. My daughter enjoys eating beans, so we cooked them and had delicious meals. It was rewarding to know that the food on our plates came from our own garden.
Not everything was a success, though. We planted garlic, but unfortunately, it was not ready for harvest before winter came. The tomatoes also had some problems. We received two tomato plants from our neighbor and replanted them, but as the tomatoes grew bigger and turned red, they started to rot. Still, my daughter had fun picking the ones that were good.
Looking ahead, we are excited to plant again in the spring. We will discuss what to grow, making sure to choose vegetables and fruits that we all like. For example, we planted mangold, but none of us really eat it, so we will think carefully about what to plant next time.
Gardening is not only a great way to get fresh vegetables and fruits, but it also teaches patience and responsibility. Watching plants grow, taking care of them, and then enjoying the harvest is a rewarding experience. It is also a wonderful way to spend time as a family, working together and appreciating nature. We are looking forward to another gardening season and all the joys it will bring!
