Discovering Words: Our One-Year-Old’s Growing Vocabulary

Our little one-year-old is hitting some adorable milestones in her language development journey. Recently, she’s been surprising us with a variety of words beyond the classic “mommy” and “daddy.” One notable addition to her vocabulary is “Bingo,” which happens to be the name of the fluffy dog from Cocomelon. To make her joy complete, we got her a stuffed toy dog resembling Bingo, and it’s now her cuddly companion.

Another word that lights up her face is “car.” Whenever we take a stroll along the main road, her eyes sparkle with excitement as she spots cars passing by. “Hello” is another charming addition to her repertoire, always accompanied by an adorable wave that melts our hearts.

Credit for her pronunciation of “penguin” goes to two stuffed penguin toys, thoughtful gifts from a close friend of my husband. Now, when she points to them, she gleefully exclaims “peng-guin.”

Her fascination extends to the feline world as well, with “cat” being another word she’s mastered. Thanks to bedtime routines, she also delights in saying “star” as we sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” together.

One particularly quack-tastic addition to her vocabulary is “duck.” Her rubber duck bath toy has become a cherished companion during bath time, leading to enthusiastic quacks from our little one.

It’s heartwarming to witness her linguistic exploration, each word a testament to her growing understanding of the world around her. As parents, we find immense joy in these small yet significant milestones, eagerly awaiting the next word that will undoubtedly bring more smiles to our little one’s face.
